Pictures of the Demonstrations in Bishkek on March 27

Here are some impressions of the demonstrations held by the Kyrgyz opposition in Bishkek on March 27 (thanx to member of kelkel E-mail list for sending). The United People’s Movement had called upon its followers to conduct rallies all over Kyrgyzstan and gather as a sign of protest against the politics of the repressive regime of president Kurmanbek Bakiev. The results of the demonstrations are disappointing since not nearly enough people followed the call. A comparison with the 2006 demonstrations of the opposition Za Reformy shows the weakness of todays opposition organizations. In 2006 Za Reformy managed to motivate thousands to come and was backed by a public opinion longing for change and reforms. Looking at the following pictures I get the impression that this public backing has been lost …

Opposition Protests and Disoriented Youth

It was symptomatic: the United People’s Movement, the main Kyrgyz opposition block, held rallies at the weekend all over the country. In Bishkek the demonstrators met at Gorki square, a park somewhere hidden behind the main sport stadium in the capital. However, a friend of mine went to see the protests and ended up at Ala-Too square, the capital’s central place, cause she thought the rally would be held there (since rallies usually are).

The point is: my friend actually saw a leaflet which was circulating at her university; but it was not distributed systematically and so she just got a short look and was informed that something would be organized but could not specify where and when.  Since state media did not mention anything, independent media is almost completely shut down and alternative ways of informing are not (yet?) functioning, she was unlucky and visited Ala-Too place which is currently a construction side (on purpose?) Все На Митинг! Все?

In Kyrgyzstan hat der 27. März bereits begonnen, der letzte Freitag im Monat. Geplant sind für diesen Tag Demonstrationen der Vereinigten Volksbewegung, dem Sammlungsbecken oppositioneller Gruppen und Parteien, überall im Land. Man möchte anknüpfen an die guten alten Zeiten von Za Reformy, jener Oppositionsbewegung, die im Jahr 2006 Bakiev und seiner Mannschaft gehörig einheizte. Mit dem Miting will man anschließen an die Tradition erfolgreicher Massenproteste aus jenen Tagen.

Wird es gelingen? Zweifel sind angebracht. Nicht nur zeugt der Name der Oppositionsbewegung von mangelnder Kreativität und Phantasie auf Seiten der Oppositionäre (man fühlt sich unweigerlich an die Auseinandersetzungen zwischen der Volksfront von Judäa und der Judäischen Volksfront im Film The Life Of Brian erinnert), auch in organisationeller Hinsicht weist die OND (ОНД = Объединенное Народное Движение) wenig Gemeinsamkeiten mit ihrer berühmten Vorgängerin auf.

неужели такие слова от приживойт?
когда-то была самый яркий критик авторитаризма, а сейчас использует те же самые механизмы дискредитаций мнения оппозиции и безответственных манипулаций общественного мнения, которые при первом авторитаризме представители власти использовали против нее? даже не хочется верить.
я в шоке.
как быстро и низко человек может пасть …

Medet Sadyrkulov tot!

Der ehemalige Leiter der kyrgyzischen Präsidialadministration, Medet Sadyrkulov, ist tot. Er starb vergangene Nacht bei einem Autounfall auf dem Weg von Almaty nach Bischkek. Ein junger Mann war mit seinem Wagen in das Auto des ehemaligen Bakievvertrauten gefahren. Beide Wagen brannten völlig aus. Der junge Mann konnte sich noch retten, die drei Insassen des anderen Autos, unter ihnen Sadyrkulov, kamen ums Leben.
