Here are some impressions of the demonstrations held by the Kyrgyz opposition in Bishkek on March 27 (thanx to member of kelkel E-mail list for sending). The United People’s Movement had called upon its followers to conduct rallies all over Kyrgyzstan and gather as a sign of protest against the politics of the repressive regime of president Kurmanbek Bakiev. The results of the demonstrations are disappointing since not nearly enough people followed the call. A comparison with the 2006 demonstrations of the opposition Za Reformy shows the weakness of todays opposition organizations. In 2006 Za Reformy managed to motivate thousands to come and was backed by a public opinion longing for change and reforms.
